Letters to the editor

Hi Ron,

It’s amazing how many people feel passionately about hustle dancing and want to express it. The letter to the Producers of Dancing With the Stars has had 42 people comment , 24 like it and there are many other threads on FaceBook that people are commenting on and they are still coming in. Also, many people are not on FaceBook and have been sending me emails. I will wait one more week since there is ’strength in numbers’. I do not think the producers will be able to ignore our collective voice.
If you missed the show’s Group Hustle, here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvIxrtSDco4
If you want to comment and be part of the letter that will be sent via Facebook, here is the link

A big thank you to all my friends at Michael’s for making my birthday celebration so special – again! Thank you to all the gentlemen and ladies who were in my birthday dance line, and for all the cards, gifts and good wishes. Special thanks to all the talented paparazzi for taking pictures and sharing them with everyone; to Jennifer and Gayle for hustling like only they know how and keeping everyone’s glasses full; and to DJ Mark who is just the hottest DJ around – in more ways than one! And Natalie, who OUTDID herself when she made my birthday cake – it was so good, it was almost all gone when I got off the floor from my birthday dance! More important, thank you all for your friendship, which is truly what makes Michael’s a special place every Wednesday night. Last – and certainly not least – many, many, many thanks to my ever-loving husband, Andre, who makes it all very special.
Carole Phelps

Hey Ron,
I commend you for talking up the concern about the death of the hustle. So sorry to sound so negative but I have been to a number of night clubs and the dance is getting no exceptance from the young people. I feel like it is dying a slow death. The tv shows mock the dance and would discourage any young person from ever consider learning the dance. It will take a lot of people to help turn this around. Hopefully I’ll live long enough to see a resurgence of the hustle.
Keep up the good work,
Toni Ebner
………………………………………………….
Hi there Ron,
I just wanted to say congratulation to all the winners in the contest you had for the best of 2009.
I like the fact that you spotlight many of the dancers that really helped put the hustle on the map.
As your readers have written the hustle dance doesn’t get proper exposure on the television shows. When it is portrayed it is a laughable performance. I’m sure even the choreographers are pushed to make it exciting, and comical rather then portray the dance the way it was meant to be done. Sure it is all about ratings and getting millions of people to tune in and watch the shows but it is very sad when they interchange the name of the hustle with disco. They are not the same. Disco is a category that includes dancing, the music the dress with little boundaries. The hustle dance is a specific dance that has a count, patterns, partnering expectations etc. I keep watching these shows hoping that they will eventually get it right. Just not sure.
Thanks for letting me vent Ron,
Happy Holidays,
Susan Baird :)

Singer/Dancer Sunny Leigh

Sunny Leigh is an artist, musician, writer, singer, dancer, poet, actress, model, healer. She lives her life guided by one fundamental truth, Love. The answer. Her songs are an honest, realistic, portrayal of life.
A life lived by a woman. A life full of honest realities, a life of love.
Get ready for “Sweet Feelings” her hot new CD just released. Featuring 13 original tracks, Sunny shows her versatility as she takes you on a contemporary musical journey. A diverse score that explores fresh beats then lifts you to her embracing ballads. The dance tracks will have you moving with an ideal tempo for swing, free style and/or hustle dancing. A solid presentation, the album starts off hard with “Commitment,” a dance track, that gives the smoothness of a Cher with a soft tone that only Sunny can deliver. “Positive Attitude” shows a raspy side of Sunny still delivering that upbeat melody. The title track, “Sweet Feelings,” a favorite, slows things down and lets you unwind to the vocal skills of Sunny. Her passion shines through in this touching number. If you prefer a country feel, check out “The Other Woman.” Smart lyrics with a message, “I am the other woman,” a different perspective. One of the more commercial style tracks is “Slippin Away”, an up tempo song with a catchy beat and harmony. The song is well arranged and produced. One of the more sultry ballads has to be “When You Kiss Me,” a very expressive song that Sunny shares her personal thoughts through – “Feel the magic we embrace.” The song I anticipate to be the first single release, “If I Were A Rock Star” is very tight. The song captures the tone of today’s’ soft rock and delivers a strong track from start to finish. This one is destine to end up on VH1.
Born and raised on Long Island, Sunny is an active dancer and a regular at DanceSport and Stepping Out in New York City. Inspired to learn the hustle by the likes of Donna DeSimone and Paul Pellicoro, she has tackled all the dance forms. After 20 years of a dual career in the fields of art and fashion, she knew it was time to step up. She wrote constantly and soon turned out over 1000 poems. That love of music and dance demanded that some of those poems be set to music. The result is now in your hands or on your Ipod. Songs that are filled with passion, creativity, honesty and above all Love. Songs that tell of one woman’s journey. Sunny Leigh will be singing a cute Xmas Medley on December 23rd (8PM) at the Iguana VIP Lounge, located at 240 West 54th Street, NYC.
Watch for her official release party for her CD on February 8, 2010 from 7 PM to 8PM at the Triad 158 W. 72nd St. www.triadnyc.com / www.sunnybtunes.com
Her message is clear. Sunny wrote this CD for everyone that is hungry for love. “We all need to touch and be touched. I hope my songs will touch you” she shares.
Be inspired, you can visit her website to purchase her CD at: http://cdbaby.com/cd/SunnyLeigh
